![Settle in by the fire, get a cup of tea, and read this post on your laptop. Those are my marching orders. Be back in about 10 minutes with your coffee and your piece of cake.
You ready? Good. I have some slow jams, some smooth operator tunes set to get you in the mood. I’m talking baby making music if you want it to be. Hell you can even play this music and enjoy practicing making some babies in the near or far future.
Here are the best boy bands THEN and NOW (music/track links included):
The Beatles
You didn’t think I was going to make a list like this and not include those guys from Liverpool did you? There is no such thing as a bad Beatles song. It just doesn’t exist. So off the top of my head, I’m just going to link you to a scant few of my favourite and encourage you to acquire their entire collection.
PLEASE PLEASE ME
“Last night I said these words to my girl ‘I know you never even try girl.’ Come on, come on…please please me, like I please you.”
“…in my heart, I do all the pleasing with you, it’s so hard to reason with you.”
TWIST AND SHOUT
“You got me going, just like I knew you would.”
“come on come come on baby now….work it on out.”
“You know you look so good…you know you got me going now….”
“ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”
CLASSIC. The best part of Ferris Bueller’s Day off (wow I just realized I wasn’t even born when this came out), Happiness.
PAPERBACK WRITER
“Please sir or madam will you read my book? It took me years to write so would you take a look?”
“And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer.”
“…son is working for the Daily man…steady job, but he wants to be a paperback writer.”
PLEASE MR. POSTMAN (I workout to this song…on my spinning bike, and sing along every time because I can.)
“Mr. postman look and see, if there’s a letter in your bag for me?”
NORWEGIAN WOOD (THIS BIRD HAS FLOWN)
“…She showed me her room, isn’t it good. Norwegian wood.”
“She told me to sit anywhere. So I looked around and noticed there wasn’t a chair.”
“…bided my time, drinking her wine…Then she said it’s time for bed….she told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh, I told her I didn’t and crawled out to sleep in the bath….”
ELEANOR RIGBY
“I look at all the lonely people. Elanor Rigby…wearing a face she keeps in a jar by the door. Who is it for?”
“All the lonely people, where do they all belong?”
“Look at him working, darning is socks in the night when no one is there. What does he care?”
STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER
“Let me take you down…going to strawberry fields. Nothing is real.”
“Misunderstanding all you see….it doesn’t matter much to me.”
Boyz II Men
To me they are the ultimate. Tenor and base harmonizing power houses. They are my favourite boy band ever (next to The Beatles of course). I’m not sure how many people consider these guys to be a boyband but they are, and they’re just about perfect.
I use to have the biggest crush on the tall and skinny one (as I called him), who is actually named Shawn Patrick Stockman. My hip older cousin was obsessed and in love with them when she was in high school and I was really small living with them. They were a quartet until Michael McCary (pictured second from the left) had to leave the group in 2003 due to chronic back problems.
Here is their lineup now:
Nathan Morris, (yes two singers in the band are cousins), and Shaun stock-man. Can you spot the family resemblance between the two?
Maybe he’ll sort that out and make a comeback to the group like Kevin Richardson?
They are responsible for heart pounding, intoxicating, and titillating songs which include:
END OF THE ROAD
“Still I can’t let go….it’s unnatural…”
“You belong to me, I belong to you.”
“Girl, I’m hear for you. All those times at night when you hurt me…I knew about it, I just didn’t care.”
WATER RUNS DRY
“We don’t even know what we argue about. Don’t even say I love you no more, saying how we feel is no longer allowed.”
“Let’s don’t wait till the water runs dry, we might watch our whole lives pass us by…we’ll make the biggest mistake of our lives, don’t do it baby.”
“They can see the tears in our eyes, but we’ve been having pain that lies deep in our hearts…why do we hurt each other? Why do we push love away?”
I’LL MAKE LOVE TO YOU
“Close your eyes [and I ALWAYS close my eyes and make a wish when I play this track] make a wish, and blow out the candlelight…girl your wish is my command.”
“Throw your clothes on the floor. I’m gonna take my clothes of too, I’ve made plans to be with you, girl whatever you asking you know I can do…”
“Girl relax, let’s go slow, I ain’t got nowhere to go. I’m just gonna concentrate on you. Girl are you ready? It’s gonna be a long night.”
ON BENDED KNEE
“I’ll never walk again, until you come back to me. I’m down on bended knee”
“So many nights I dream of you, holding my pillow tight right now…”
“Every moment without you, it seems like eternity, I’m begging you begging you, come back to me….”
Did I have a clue deep down what they were singing about? Hell no, did it stop me from singing dramatically (arms flailed and face anguished? ) Not in the slightest.
N’SYNC
***
I’m not even going to lie to you; My heart was too full of Boyz II Men and Backstreet boys, to even make any sense or time for N’Sync. I do appreciate some of their songs though (God must have spent a little more time on you with it’s flawless harmony and backtrack, and This I Promise you are my guilty pleasures.). They were an amazing group, of this I know for sure. But honestly, I was too busy fawning over Shaun, Kevin, and Brian (the hole in his heart had me so worried for him back in the day), to think about any other bands.
Long story short; you’re amazing on Saturday Night Live J.T, but you need to make some more music.
Let’s talk new boy bands. And in this case, the list is short for me. It’s all about ONE DIRECTION.
They have it all; songs about longing, upbeat sing along songs, even songs which belong in the club. This is a group of FIVE (count them) lead vocalists, and somehow they make it work. Everyone has their place, and everyone has their favourite.( ::cough:: Harry Styles is my fav ).
As I’ve said before, I really like that they aren’t too bothered with being heavily choreographed or perfect. They just do their thing and it works.
Some of their tracks include:
WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL
“You’re insecure, don’t know what for, you’re turning heads when you walk through the door.”
“Don’t need makeup, to cover up, being who you are is enough.”
“Everyone else in the room can see it, everyone else but you…baby you light up my world like nobody else…”
STOLE MY HEART (Should be club jam)
“The light shines, it’s getting hot on my shoulder.”
“Cause your friends, they look good and you look better.”
“Don’t you know all night, I’ve been waiting for a girl like you to come around…”
“Stole my heart with just one look, when I saw your face, fell in love…Just one look yea….”
ONE THING
“Something’s gotta given now, cause I’m dying to make you see…”
“You’ve got that one thing.”
“Now I’m climbing the walls, and you don’t notice at all…”
MOMENTS
“Shut the door, turn the light off, I wanna be with you, I wana feel your love.
“Heartbeats harder, time escapes me, trembaling hands touch skin, it makes this harder. And the tears stream down my face….”
“If we could only have this life for one more day, if we could only turn back time…you know I’ll be your life, your voice, your reason to be…my love, my heart is breathing for this moment in time, I’ll find the words to say. Before you leave me today.”](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3dofjXyVk1r2hovro1_500.gif)
